LIFE AFTER CANCER, CHEMO, AND COVID: CONQUERING THE FOG

Life after cancer, chemo, and covid

It has been several years since I’ve been here. As we began 2019, I found out I had cancer and needed surgery. After a year of chemo, I was shocked at the reality of “chemo brain.” As much as I wanted to write during that “down time,” it was like a physical wall that needed to be climbed. So I was excited to begin 2020 in a new world cancer free, hoping the brain fog wouldn’t last long. Silly me.

Even with the unexpected turn of events of a world-wide outbreak of covid, what no one talked about was how the brain fog was similar to “chemo brain” – double whammy. I spent years trying to get back to my writing. That became an elusive dream that has taken a long time to achieve.

After I finished writing Maisy’s Mirror, I always wanted an Epilogue. No matter how many times I tried, I couldn’t give Maisy and Wills the ending I wanted for them. It was the desire of my heart for so long, but conquering the brain fog took years to get my thoughts in a coherent order.

On the Horizon

So I started writing In the Strike Zone, a book I had planned after finishing Stealing Runner’s Heart. After years of trying, I finally finished what I think will be my best book yet. It will be published in the next few months.

I was on a roll, so I started Left on Base, the third installment of the Leaving the Game Series. I’m tickled with those results (almost done!) and will publish that shortly after Strike Zone releases.

But before that happens, I want to update Stealing Runner’s Heart to the revised feeling from Strike Zone and Left on Base. Add a little steam, add another scene, just a few minor tweaks to keep the series consistent.

As often happens in the writer’s brain, while I was writing Left on Base, I really liked one of the characters and wanted him to have his own book. I came up with the outline (it will start its own series) and will be called The Brotherhood of Lies. Stay tuned.

Since it felt as though I was no longer in a fog, I finally wrote the Epilogue to Maisy’s Mirror. I couldn’t be happier with it. It published today and should be available within the next few days. I was so excited about the Epilogue, I had the cover updated and am thrilled with it.
